Buick is the oldest American automotive brand still in existence.

Buick was the first car manufacturer to introduce a closed body. 

In recent years Buick has developed a range of vehicles more attractive to a younger than traditionally associated with Buick customers. 

GM is now positioning its Buick brand to compete with the entry level of the luxury car brands
Chevrolet was acquired by GM from Louis Chevrolet to sell a product in direct competition with the Ford model T. 

Chevrolet sells a wide range of vehicles from the compact vehicle to the midrange utility truck. The brand recognition is such that it is often synonymous with GM and its products.
Chrysler is one of the U.S. ¨Big 3 ¨ with GM and Ford. 

After being under the umbrella of Daimler (Mercedes) ten years, it is now owned by the Italian Fiat group. It is also part of the same group with Dodge, Ram and Jeep. 

Chrysler holds the title of the first Muscle car with Barracuda launched two weeks before the Mustang in the 60s. 
Dodge is a division of Chrysler with cars a little more affordable. The original Dodge was a supplier of parts and assemblies for auto parts. 

It is also known to have created a whole new segment still popular today with the Dodge Caravan model: the minivan. 

The brand is also appreciated for its Dodge trucks (now grouped under the RAM brand RAM.
Fiat is an Italian manufacturer which in its history has produced train engines, military vehicles, farm tractors and airplanes. 

This is the first Italian automobile manufacturer, fourth European carmaker after Volkswagen, Peugot-Citroen and Renault. 

Fiat now owns Chrysler, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and is a shareholder of Ferrari.
Ford is one of Detroit ¨Big 3 ¨, second just behind GM and fifth in the world after Toyota and Volkswagen. 

Ford was founded by the legendary Henry Ford at the origin of the large-scale production of cars by the invention of the automobile assembly line in America. 

Ford also has a minority stake in Mazda and Aston Martin. 

In the category of light trucks, the Ford F-150 is the biggest seller in the industry.

GMC

GMC is a manufacturer of pickup and commercial trucks, buses, vans, military vehicles and sport utility vehicles. 

GMC division is the second largest division after Chevrolet.
Honda is the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world, produced by which everything began. 

Honda is also the second largest Japanese automaker behind Toyota. 

It was the first among the Japanese, to create a luxury brand: Acura. 

Honda is also in generators, boat motors, ATVs, and now in the jet, the HondaJet .
Hyundai is a manufacturer of South Korea. Hyundai began as a construction company, followed by a service container transport, manufacturing elevators, shipbuilding, dams and nuclear power plants. 

All these companies are now separated but retain the name Hyundai. 

With the acquisition of Kia, Hyundai is now the fourth largest automotive manufacturer in the world after GM, Toyota, Volkswagen.
Jeep is a line of sport utility and off-road vehicle is now part of the Fiat Group, as Chrysler and Dodge. 

Jeep was the first all-terrain vehicle created to provide such a vehicle to the U.S. Army during World War II. 

There are now a numerous variations of this concept with other manufacturers such as Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota.

Kia

Kia is part of the Hyundai family and is a manufacturer of South Korea. 

Kia means ¨ from Asia¨. KIA is the oldest Korean automobile company and began by manufacturing tubes and parts for bicycles.
Mazda is the third largest car manufacturer in Japan. 

¨Mazda ¨ is from Ahura Mazda, a god of the earliest civilizations in West Asia … the god of wisdom, intelligence and harmony. 

Originally the company was called Toyo and manufactured machinery tools. 

Mazda is the only car company that has developed and offered to consumers ¨rotary engines¨. 

Ford is a partner since 1970. Currently, Ford owns 33% equity in Mazda. 

The Mazda logo is a stylized M, winged, intended to show that Mazda is stretching its wings for the future. The wings are symbolic of a guardian angel.
The original Mini was a small economy car from England who over time has become an icon of fashion and automotive. 

It is also known under the names Mini Austin and Mini Cooper. 

Mini is now under the leadership of BMW which obtained the property during the redemption of the Rover Group (Land Rover, Mini, MG) in the 90s. Mini is the only brand BMW retained.
Mitsubishi is a Japanese automotive brands. 

The brand logo is the emblem of the Tosa clan, the largest employer of the founder of Mitsubishi and the shield of his own family: three stacked diamonds. 

Mitsu (three), Hishi (water chestnut) is also used in Japan to describe a diamond.
Nissan is a Japanese automotive manufacturer. 

Initially, the company was called DAT and produced mainly trucks. When creating a new small car it was named Datson (Son of DAT), rename it later Datsun (DAT sun). DAT will be purchased later by Nissan and renamed so in the 80s. 

It also produces luxury models under the brand Infiniti. 

Nissan establish several partnerships with Ford, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, etc. Currently, Renault of France owns 43% of Nissan.
Subaru is a Japanese automobile manufacturer known for equipping all vehicles with four-wheel drive. 

Toyota holds a 16% interest in the parent company of Subaru, Fuji, a company specializing in aviation and aerospace. 

Subaru logo refers to the Pleiades, a star cluster in the Taurus constellation, one of the closest to the Earth, and can be seen with a naked eye.
Toyota is the largest manufacturer of Japanese cars and competes for the world premiere position with VW. 

Originally the cars were sold under the brand Toyoda, the founder’s name. The name was changed to Toyota because it ends with a dull clear consonant (… ta) instead of a consonant sound (da …), a muddy, turbid sound. In addition, it takes eight strokes to write Toyota in Japanese, a lucky number. 

The logo represents the global expansion of Toyota’s technology and unlimited potential for the future in the largest external oval. The two inner ovals represent the client, the business and a mutually beneficial relationship. And you can see a stylish T for Toyota. 

Namely: Lexus is a Toyota brand.
Volkswagen is the number 0ne car manufacturer in the world. 

VW has three cars in the top 10 list of vendors in the world: Golf, Beetle and Passat. And they are all still in production today. 

German Volkswagen means ¨people’s car¨. Das Auto means ¨THE Car¨. 

Originally, the first Volkswagen was commissioned by the German government just before World War II and it is Ferdinand Porsche, the father of the one who create the Porsche division, which draw the basics of the Beetle. 

In the wake of post-war agreements, all European and American auto companies refused to buy Volkswagen, this vehicle is ¨too ugly and too noisy … ¨. The Volkswagen Group now holds among other Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche and Ducati motorcycles.
